To protect the environment, the State Council has stipulated that supermarkets and shopping malls will not be allowed to provide free-of-charge disposable plastic bags from June 1st ,2008. Recently, many supermarkets in Beijing has begun to promote their eco-friendly shopping bags such as pp nonwonen bags,cotton bags,canvas bags,pp woven bags and these bags have soon become popular.

The eco-friendly shopping bags have many colors for choose. They are large enough to hold the contents of a supermarket shopping basket and are recyclable. The supermarket is now giving these bags to their club members free of charge. In just over one hour more than 300 people received their free bags. According to another supermarket, they will also introduce eco-friendly bags and will donate the cost for plastic bags to environmental protection.
